NEAR MILWAUKIE, Ore. – A teenager saved the life of his friend when he pushed her to safety and was hit by a truck.
Kameron Howell-Meeker, 15, and Ellie Fielder, 17, were walking along River Road in Clackamas County Tuesday evening to meet friends when the truck swerved toward them.
Kameron and Ellie met only a month ago at Rex Putnam High School, where they’re both new students. Now, they have an unbreakable bond.
“I saw my life flash before my eyes,” Ellie said. “He’s my hero and my lifesaver because if it weren’t for him, I would not be sitting here today.”
When asked what he thinks about being called a hero, Kameron said, “I don’t think I should be a hero. I just helped a friend in need.”
He joked he’s just excited to get some time off school and said he feels closer to Ellie.
“I’d be dead,” she said. “He’s going to be my best friend for the rest of my life.”
